Well its the new year and I have been thinking about what Im going to do for my art requirement this year. I have been toying around with the idea of writing and illustrating a childrens book for years. Well, ever since my daughter was born, say 20 years ago. Its taken me a while to get around to it. I have been doing research for years on the market and have come to the conclusion that if I do infact attempt to write a book that I will be doing it as a project with no expectations on the tail end of the project. From what I gather unless you as an author illustrator are one of the few fortunate, I should not expect to make any money for my efforts. Oh well, even if I dont i tmight be something cool that my daughter and my son can pass down to their kids (if they have them). I will let you know how its going as I get started. Dont be surprised if you start seeing some character illustrations here. Till then, have a great 2010!

I was bitten by the Op Art bug over the weekend.
I was looking at some of my older paintings that I still own and ran across a painting of Marily Monroe, not the one on this blog but a different one. I will try and get a photo of it and upload it. Anyway, I started thinking about the purpose of my art and what I actually think about when Im painting. I determined that when I paint my more traditional art, i.e., landscapes, pastels, abstract, even sculpture, I think about the subject and whether I like what I am producing. do the colors work? How will it look in a living room? Does a tree really look like that? etc.,
I realized as I was thinking about this that the only time I really put any thought into society and culture and things that effect us on a daily basis is when I work on my op art. Mostly because I have to think in those terms to come up with an idea for a painting. When I created “Marilyn”, my Marilyn Monroe painting, I thought about what it was like when she was alive, and how fragmented her life was, at least based on what I know and have read about her.
Well, I couldn’t shake the desire to create a new Op Art piece and started working on a new one of George Bush. Take a look at the sampe photos I have uploaded in my OP Art section of the blog. Its not complete but I’m getting closer. Its not a statment of whether he was a good or bad president, everyone will have their opinions. I think its more of a statement of the legacy he leaves behind. With so many things that occured during his presidency, the one that sticks in my mind the most was the one that scared me the most. Take a look.

Welcome everyone to my art blog.
First I would like to thank you for visiting my site. I hope to be able to share my art and experiences with my art with you and hope to get some great interactive feedback at the same time.
Well, it’s the new year and I decided that this year I was going to work on my art and take it much more serious than I have in the past. See, I have been drawing, painting, sculpting crafting, etc., as far back as I can remember. I was encouraged by my dad who was and still is an excellent illustrator. My dad never took his talent to a professional level as far as his career but was very capable if he chose to do it. My dad was suppose to die at the age of 13. See he had rhumatic fever and compounded with heart problems at a very early age they didn’t give him much of a chance to survive beyond his 13th birthday. He spent his early years in the hospital without being able to go home. While he was in the hospital he learned how to type along with his regular studies but he had plenty of time to draw. I wish I could show you what he illustrated.. he was a fan of comic books so he got very good at anatomy, something I never fancied my self very good at.
I know Im going the long way around to get to my point but I think its important that you understand why this is so important to me. I wish everyone had been able to see my fathers work and appreciate it for what it was. He was a talented artist who didnt have a chance to share and demonstrate his talents with the world because he was too busy trying to make a living to support his family. I would like to be able to take what he shared with me and share that with the world. Well I don’t know if the world is really realistic but share what I have to offer with anyone interested.
So this year, 2009, I am going to put the time and effort to create and promote my art.
I hope that you can be part of this journey with me.
I think it’s important for you to know right up front that I dont particularly like to write, so this is a new project for me in more ways than one.
Check back periodically and lets see whats cooking with my new art projects, you never know, there might be something that you actually like and want to talk about..
Cheers,
Arnold
